KICKING ACNE THE NATURAL WAY
If you’re human, chances are, you’ve had some sort of encounter with acne. Whether it’s up close and personal or listening to the complaints of a close friend, it’s something that we’d all rather avoid! Here's the lowdown and how to kick it the NATURAL way!
FACT: “Acne affects more than 80% of 11 to 30-year-olds.” - Acne Academy
WHAT IS ACNE?
Acne is a skin condition that occurs when the sebaceous glands in the follicles of the skin become overactive, resulting in the the production of excess sebum (oil).
When this occurs, the skin follicles often become blocked, leading to whiteheads and blackheads.
These blocked follicles can then become further inflamed due to infection by bacteria that live on the skin. When this happens, the surrounding skin becomes red and sore and depending on the severity can lead to the production of pus, spots, nodules and cysts.
WHAT CAUSES ACNE?
While the exact cause of acne is unknown it is widely believed to be related to hormone imbalance which can occur for a range of different reasons, including but definitely not limited to:
- Medication, birth control pills etc
- Diet and environment
WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO TREAT ACNE?
Unfortunately many of the mainstream products recommended for acne treatment contain harsh chemicals which strip the skin of its natural oils and cause further hormone imbalance, often making the problem worse.
When it comes to treating acne, I believe the best approach is from the inside and out AND the outside in. First and foremost, it’s essential to address the internal imbalances with a good diet, regular exercise and plenty of sleep. Once you’ve got that covered then you can consider some additional, external support in the form of products and treatments.

3. JOJOBA OIL
While most acne sufferers might be horrified at the thought of applying additional oil to their skin, Jojoba actually produces a paradoxical effect because of its similarity to sebum. The application of jojoba oil tricks the skin into assuming the amount of sebum is already high, therefore decreasing natural sebum production and resulting in significantly less oily skin. It also cleanses and clears clogged pores, soothes inflammation and redness and has amazing antibacterial properties.
