WHY WE NEED BOTH PRE AND PROBIOTICS FOR GLOWING SKIN

PREBIOTICS AND PROBIOTICS

Immunity, good health and glowing skin really do start in the gut. One of our favourite gut health gurus, Carla Oates of The Beauty Chef, says science is proving there is a strong connection between our skin and gut health. Prebiotics and probiotics can support the gut by ensuring beneficial flora are present in the digestive tract and gut, that bad bacteria are not ruling the show and to promote optimum gut and digestive function which will ultimately lead to improved overall wellbeing. Here’s the lowdown on pre and probiotics and some of my favourite ways to ensure my gut is in tip top shape!

What are Prebiotics?

Prebiotics are foods which support good bacteria in the digestive tract. They are foods containing inulin (an insoluble fibre) which helps to nourish and clear out the digestive tract of any toxins. They act as fuel for probiotics, which is why it’s so important to be taking both a pre-and probiotic.

Wholefood dietary sources of prebiotics include:

  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Legumes
  • Bananas
  • Berries
  • Celery
  • Leafy greens
  • Asparagus

What are Probiotics?

Probiotics are beneficial gut bacteria that promote the growth of good gut flora, support immunity, and promote production of B Vitamins too https://thebeautychef.com/blogs/blog .  Eating a diet rich in probiotics is important for your overall health and for ensuring your tummy is happy and working it’s absolute best!

Wholefood dietary sources of probiotics include:

  • Fermented drinks such as kombucha, apple cider vinegar and kefir
  • Fermented foods such as sauerkraut, kimchi, tempeh and cultured yogurt products.

Benefits?

  • Improved digestion and absorption of nutrients from food
  • Supports immunity
  • Promotes glowing skin
  • Aids the body’s detoxification system
  • Reduces inflammation in the gut
  • Can help reduce bloating and gut discomfort associated with bad gut bacteria or gut flora imbalances
