TOP 5 Natural Oils & Their Uses

WHY I LOVE OILS...

Face oils have had a well-deserved resurgence in skincare lately. Instead of making your skin oilier – natural oils actually restore moisture, hydration and nourish any type of skin! TALK ABOUT WINNING. Just always make sure you choose unrefined, raw, certified organic oils when possible.. trust me on this one, you DO NOT want to be rubbing pesticides all over your skin!

There is also a long list of oil blends from a few amazing organic skincare brands that are absolutely amazinggg (blog post review coming soon), but I thought it would be best to first start with the basics...

Below I have outline the TOP 5 Natural (and most common) basic oils and how they can be used on the face, body and hair!

COCONUT OIL

Coconut oil might be a go-to in your pantry, but did you know it is also amazing for the skin? Comprised mostly of medium-chain fatty acids, it actually has a similar pH and sebum to that of our skin!

The only thing to be mindful of is that coconut oil has a higher comedogenic rating (meaning it may block your pores) than other oils – so if you have acne prone skin, stick with using it on your body rather than on your face. Look out for organic extra virgin coconut oil, as it’s the most pure and unrefined form. This beautifully packaged INDAH organic coconut oil is a great option, which is hand-pressed in small batches.

 How to use?

  • Coconut oil is PERFECT for using as a weekly hair treatment. Massage a small scoop of coconut oil into the roots, combing through, right to the ends. Rinse off after 10-15 minutes with (any organic) shampoo.
  • Coconut oil also makes a fabulous all-over body moisturiser! Massage onto damp skin after a shower and you’ll have glowy skin all day.
  • Coconut Oil is THE BEST makeup remover too!

ROSEHIP OIL

Rosehip oil is rich in Vitamin C, fatty acids and its anti-inflammatory – making it especially soothing and hydrating for sensitive and acne prone skin. It is also a dry oil, which means it absorbs really well and won’t leave an oily residue.

Rosehip Plus Organic Rosehip Oil

 How to use?

  •  Use as a facial serum in the morning and evening. Massage 3-4 drops onto damp skin and you could even mix 1-2 drops in your moisturiser at night if your skin is really dry. Rosehip Plus Organic is a beautifully cold pressed oil from Australia.

JOJOBA OIL

Jojoba oil is a gorgeous golden oil that funnily enough is not actually an oil at all. It's a superfine wax that mimics the skins natural sebum, making it versatile and well matched for most skin types. Another fun fact about Jojoba is that it’s non-comedogenic – meaning it won’t block your pores. If you haven’t tried incorporating an oil into your skincare routine before, Jojoba oil is the perfect place to start!

The Jojoba Company Oil

How to use?

  • Its the perfect base before applying makeup, massage a drop or two onto the face and allow to sink in for 5minutes before applying foundation.
  • As a makeup remover. Carefully massage a few drops onto the eye area to dissolve makeup, before removing with an organic cotton pad.
  • Dry, flaky scalp? Work 1 tablespoon into the hair, focusing on the roots – giving yourself a nice massage at the same time! If you have time, wrap your hair in a bun and pop on a shower cap for an hour for the oil to deeply nourish and condition. Otherwise, simply rinse off well with shampoo.
